Imphal
Ten opposition political parties in Manipur, including INC, AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), NCP, RSP, and SS(UBT), came together and organized a rally. They submitted a memorandum to the Manipur Governor, calling for the restoration of peace, tranquillity, and the protection of democracy. The rally was led by prominent figures, including former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and MPCC president K. Meghachandra. The rally began at Congress Bhavan and proceeded towards the Raj Bhavan, with a minor confrontation between the police and party members, but they were allowed to reach the Raj Bhavan gate. In the memorandum, the parties expressed concerns about prohibitory measures that hinder citizens’ fundamental rights, such as freedom of speech and assembly, and they called for the immediate removal of these restrictions. They also urged the governor to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis, provide relief for violence victims, and demand justice for missing students and unidentified bodies in various hospitals.
