Ukhrul to be made Summer Capital of Manipur: Biren


Ukhrul: Chief Minister of Manipur Nongthombam Biren Singh today announced the plan of the state government to make Ukhrul, a Naga tribal district Summer Capital of Manipur.

Biren Singh was in Ukhrul for conducting cabinet meeting there, howsoever, two Kuki ministers Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen were absent for the cabinet sitting held for the first time in Ukhrul district.

The CM also inaugurated 20 projects and laid foundation stones for 23 other projects.

Thanked the people for their warm welcome to this hill district after a gap of four years. He termed Ukhrul an important town next to Imphal and hence plan of the government to make it summer capital of the state. CM announced a
Rupees 6 crore water augmentation project for Ukhrul. Biren further assured setting up of Nursing College
in Ukhrul in priority basis. To the delight of the gathering, the CM also announced that mobile internet connections would be restored within the next 4/5 days.

Sub-division, creation of Revenue Inspector under reservation of promotion and
opening of police post at
Tallui village are some of the
decision taken during the
cabinet meeting.

Earlier in the day, the CM and his entourage was given a warm welcome by Tangkhul CSOs while Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah proposed the welcome speech where he beseeched to declare Ukhrul the summer capital of Manipur, upgradation of Ukhrul town ring- roads, early completion of Imphal- Ukhrul (NH- 102-A), solving water scarcity problems, opening of Central Hill University,
opening of Nursing
school in Ukhrul, electrifying
21 villages in the border villages of Ukhrul district and setting up of Integrated Check Post (ICP) in the border area of Ukhrul
and Kamjong districts.

A Memorandum was also
submitted by Tangkhul Frontal Organisations, Ex- ADCs and headman of Hunphun/Ukhrul and Talloi village.

CM also inaugurated Hao Heritage Centre at Awungtang, Hungpung.
