Imphal: Manipur bids farewell to its outgoing Chief Information Commissioner, Oinam Sunil, in a ceremony held at Debala Multipurpose Auditorium, Sangai Bazar, Hiyangthang. Oinam Sunil, a former journalist who was appointed as the Information Commissioner in 2018, stepped down from his role on September 21, 2023. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the Manipur Information Commission, such as improving its financial autonomy and granting staff positions.
Oinam Sunil, the first journalist to become an Information Commissioner in Manipur, is known for effectively using RTI techniques in news reporting. He delivered important decisions during his time as Chief Information Commissioner. Notably, he allowed candidates of the MCSCC main examination-2016 to inspect their answer sheets in a landmark judgment.
Furthermore, Oinam Sunil recommended disciplinary proceedings and imposed a penalty against the SPIO of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Limited. He also directed the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited to provide documents related to the Saubhagya Scheme after they initially resisted.
