Imphal: Addressing the state-level Mera Houchongba 2023 celebration at Kangla today, Chief Minister N Biren Singh emphasized the importance of safeguarding cultural events like Mera Houchongba as a means to protect indigenous traditions and unity among diverse communities. He underscored the significance of this event, highlighting its role in celebrating the profound bond shared between the people of the hills and the valley, marking it as a state-level observance since 2017.
N. Biren Singh also stressed various initiatives aimed at unification, such as discussions with cultural experts, historical consultations, and specific governmental measures like modifying Kangla Shas and launching programs like “Go to Hills” and “Go to Village.” Additionally, he discussed ecological concerns, affirming the government’s commitment to preserving reserved forest areas without intending to displace local residents.
The event, graced by various officials, included the release of a commemorative souvenir, cultural performances by diverse traditional groups, and the exchange of gifts, symbolizing the strong camaraderie and unity among different communities within the State. In recognition of cultural contributions, DK Mothilphun Maring of Konaltong Village, Tengnoupal District, was honored with the Khongleihanba AS Wungnaioyo Zimik Mera Houchongba Award, 2023. The ceremony was organized by the State Level Organising Committee on Mera Houchongba 2023.
