Imphal: (WAARI SINGBUL NETWORK ) In a remarkable turn of events amidst the ongoing ethnic clashes, Arambai Tengol, often depicted as a radical group in the discourse of the Kuki-Zo organizations, ITLF, and COTU, spearheading the demand for separate administration for the Kuki-Zo, amidst the strife that began on May 3rd in Manipur, demonstrated a compassionate act that may catalyze reconciliation.

Members of Arambai Tengol discovered a 34-year-old Kuki woman, Kimneilhing Kipgen, from Leimakhong Chingmang, who had inadvertently entered the conflict zone. Initially presenting herself under a false identity as Pomila Tangkhul from Komlathabi Tangkhul, Chandel district, she even provided a forged Aadhaar card. However, through diligent investigation, Arambai Tengol volunteers unveiled her true identity as a woman married to a South African man and a mother to a child. Incidentally, she came looking for a house to rent.

Choosing a path of goodwill and humanity, Arambai Tengol acted altruistically by handing over Kimneilhing to the Imphal East district police, ensuring her safe return home.

Manipur Police in its X handle acknowledged the same and tweeted a photograph with captions that read, “On 26.12.2023, one lady namely Kimneilhing Kipgen (34 years) D/o. (L) Onkhohao Kipgen of Leimakhong and presently staying at Sapermeina, Kangpokpi District, was found at North AOC, Imphal by some civilians and was safely handed over to security forces. Further, she is being handed over to her family by security forces.”

This gesture of compassion and care is a beacon of hope amid the turmoil, potentially setting a precedent for a shift in the dynamics between the conflicting communities. It signifies a possible change in the atmosphere, offering a glimmer of hope toward resolving the incessant ethnic clashes that have tragically claimed over 180 lives, and displaced over 60,000 individuals who are presently seeking refuge in makeshift relief camps.

Amidst the backdrop of turmoil and discord, this act stands as a testament to the power of compassion in transcending the barriers of conflict, offering a glimpse of a future where empathy and cooperation prevail over animosity and division, fostering a climate conducive to dialogue, understanding, and ultimately resolution.
