Imphal: All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) has strongly condemned the arrest of AMWJU senior member and former president Wangkhemcha Shamjai by police on Friday.
In a joint release issued Saturday, AMWJU and EGM said that it was extremely unfortunate to have the police arrest Shamjai, Who is also the Chief editor for Kangleipakki Meira,on charges of publishing a misleading news item without giving any opportunity to issue a clarification, said a press a press release issued by AMWJU and EGM.
Even if any misleading news item was published by Wangkhemcha Shamjai, he should have been given an opportunity to issue a clarification, said AMWJU and EGM before appealing to the State Government to release Shamjai at earliest.
It appealed to all reporters to be very meticulous in collecting news reports in the backdrop of the current crisis.
AMWJU and EGM further appealed to all Editors to publish only those news items which have been verified.
