Imphal: The President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), Bijoy Kakchingtabam, today highlighted the various problems faced by media persons due to differences among several groups and pressure and intimidation from successive governments.
The AMWJU president said this during an integrative session organized by the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) as part of the annual Meet the Media Fraternity event at its headquarters.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam also discussed the current situation in the state and urged student leaders to understand the situation and the importance of unity in the face of the enemy.
“We need to know who our enemy is and we need to unite to fight the enemy,” Bijoy Kakchingtabam said. He recalled the suffering of the people during the seven-year devastation of Manipur (1819-1826) and highlighted how our brave ancestors, under the leadership of Gambhir Singh and Nara Singh, organized the Manipur levy and expelled the Burmese (Ava) from the soil of Manipur.
DESAM President Leishanthem Lamyanba also shared his thoughts on the need for unity among all the people of the state to protect it from outsiders.
