Ukhrul: Shri Govindas Konthoujam, the esteemed Minister of Public Works, Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Manipur, honoured the 10th Tangkhul Naga Zingtun (Western Tangkhul Union) Sports Cum Cultural Festival at Pharung Village, Ukhrul, as the Chief Guest. In his compelling speech, he stated, “I stand before you as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in Manipur, honored to address the vibrant gathering at the TNZL Sports Cum Cultural Festival organized by Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang in Pharung Village.”
Emphasizing the festival’s significance as a beacon of cultural celebration and athletic excellence, Minister Govindas highlighted the commitment to sports and culture as a powerful force for harmony, promoting unity amidst the rich diversity that defines Manipur. Amidst the joyous occasion, he acknowledged challenges, including ethnic violence, urging collective efforts to foster understanding, peace, and unity. Hon’ble Minister emphasized using sports, culture, and dialogue as tools to build bridges for a brighter future.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives, led by Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh, for inclusive development, particularly in hill areas, Minister Govindas emphasized Ukhrul as a top priority. He addressed concerns regarding slow progress in road construction, urging officials for a concrete report.
Patiently hearing the grievances of villagers, Minister Konthoujam, on the spot, announced developmental initiatives for Pharung, including the upgradation of Pharung Primary School, improvement of Pharung Playground, and enhancement of the village’s infrastructure.
In his concluding remarks, he spoke of the brotherhood extending beyond familial ties, citing the Meitei and Tangkhul Nagas as a shining example of strength through diversity. Minister Konthoujam inspired unity, stating, “May the Meitei and Tangkhul Nagas’ brotherhood be a guiding light, reminding us that by embracing diversity, we pave the way for a more inclusive and harmonious future.”
In a heartfelt speech, Guest of Honour Shri M. Asnikumar Singh, Chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Government of Manipur, echoed the importance of the Meitei and Tangkhul Nagas’ brotherhood, emphasizing their exemplary unity and strength rooted in shared history and cultural ties. He commended their unity, resilience, and the strength found in diversity, urging the Tangkhul community to play a pivotal role in resolving ongoing conflicts. He praised the BJP-led government’s efforts, led by Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh, in delivering for the hill areas, with Ukhrul remaining a priority.
Special Guests, including MLAs Shri Kh. Ibomcha Singh, Shri Th. Shanti Singh, Shri M. Rameshwaore Singh, Shri Th. Arunkumar Singh, Shri J. Kumo Sha, Shri S. Premchandra Singh, Mrs. QI. Zuringla Kengoo (IAS, DC/Ukhrul), and Shri T. Phulen Singh (MCS Director YAS), along with village chiefs and representatives from various organizations, added grace to the event.
The festival, held under the theme “Embracing Change,” symbolized unity and diversity, reflecting the commitment to a more inclusive and harmonious future and witnessed the active participation of Village Chiefs, representatives from various women and youth organizations of Ukhrul, and a large number of the public, emphasizing the community’s enthusiasm and engagement.
