Imphal: (Waari Singbul Network) Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, who air dashed to New Delhi on Friday, called on Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday and said the Central government is set to adopt important decisions in interest of the state.
Biren , nevertheless ,didn’t divulge what the decisions could be even as many speculated that the Centre might adopt measures to resolve the unceasing ethnic strife gripping the state.
In a post on X, formerly twitter, he said “Today, I had the esteemed privilege of meeting with the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah Ji in New Delhi. Engaging in a profound exchange, we discussed matters of paramount importance concerning our state.”
“Rest assured, the Government of India is set to take some important decisions in the interests of the people of Manipur,” added the CM.
On Wednesday, radical village volunteers of Tengnoupal district, bordering Myanmar had asked shopkeepers of Moreh town not to sell essential items even water to the state police commandos deployed there from Saturday .
The next day, miscreants hijacked a private water tanker meant for supplying potable water to the police commandos .
Though the driver was freed on the same night, the tanker remained traceless till date, and taking into account such developments, the government has taken all steps to airlift essential commodities for the cops by helicopters.
Over 200 people have been killed and thousands injured since the ethnic conflict broke out in the state on May 3 last year. The strife also left a trail of destructions and forced over 50,000 people to put up in relief camps in both the valley and hill districts.
