JUA condemns the insulting remarks of the Chief Minister towards a Guwahati-based scribe at a press interaction

Guwhati: It is very unfortunate to note that Shah Alam, a journalist of a Guwahati-based media organization, had to face derogatory remarks made by the honourable Chief Minister during a press interaction on August 21. Alam had questioned about alleged illegal hill cutting, in response to which the honourable Chief Minister pulled in his religious identity without context.

In a statement, President and General Secretary of Journalist Union of Assam (JUA) Samim Sultana Ahmed and Dhanjit Kumar Das respectively said that the personal insult meted out to the journalist by dragging his religious identity is not acceptable .

By doing this, the Chief Minister has lowered the Constitutional status of his post. Moreover, journalists’ right to ask questions has been denied.

JUA urges the Chief Minister to refrain from making such remarks unbefitting his position in the future.
