Imphal: (Waari Singbul Network) Even as the role of Assam Rifles in Manipur’s ongoing ethnic unrest continues to be questioned, with Meitei women groups demanding the force’s withdrawal over perceived partiality, the oldest paramilitary force of the country has responded by strengthening its public outreach. In a humanitarian gesture, they recently organized mega medical and dental health camps across Lilong, Patsoi, Tuibong, and Mata, bringing vital healthcare support to the affected communities in Manipur’s Valley and Hill regions.

Held in collaboration with specialist doctors from the Indian Medical Council (IMC) and district health authorities, these camps served over 3,500 people, prioritizing the elderly, women, and children across Thoubal, Imphal West, and Churachandpur Districts. The event showcased a broad spectrum of medical expertise, with specialists in orthopedics, dermatology, gynecology, and general medicine from Nasik, Mumbai, and Pune providing free consultations and medicines.

In the Imphal Valley, where the camps reached over 2,200 beneficiaries, the initiative received robust local support. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Sorokhaibam Rajan Singh, MLA of Lamsang AC, and Mr. Sazad Buiyamayum, Advisor of the Lilong United Club Manipur, who both emphasized the relief these medical services offered in a time of crisis.

Similarly, in Churachandpur, the Assam Rifles’ efforts saw participation from over 30 nursing staff from local institutions like Bethesda College of Nursing and Tunnu School of Nursing, as well as volunteers from various civil society organizations, including the ITLF, Kuki Women’s Union, and ZSF. Volunteers from local youth clubs played a pivotal role in assisting the outreach, distributing essential sanitary supplies sponsored by the SHOISHOB Foundation. At the event’s conclusion, MLA LM Khaute commended the Assam Rifles’ contributions, presenting appreciation certificates and memorabilia.

These medical camps, organized amidst rising concerns over the Assam Rifles’ involvement in Manipur, highlight the force’s ongoing commitment to community welfare and healthcare assistance, bringing critical relief and fostering resilience in the conflict-torn state.
