Delhi: Editor and publisher of Discover India’s Northeast magazine, Kishore Seram, was awarded the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the 2nd Kalyan Barooah Awards held in Constitution Club in Delhi on Wednesday, 11th Dec, 2024.
In his acceptance speech after receiving the award from Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Kishore Seram lauded the efforts of journalists from the northeast in promoting the region. He added that the fraternity shoulders the responsibility of not just being journalists but ambassadors of the region.
Other journalists felicitated during the ceremony were Mubina Akhtar (Freelance journalist), who received the award in the print media category, and Mridusmanta Boruah (Pratidin Times), who received the award in the electronic media category. Dr Kshetrimayum Chitrabhanu Devi (Imphal Review of Arts & Politics) received the award in the digital media category.
Farhana Ahmed from The Assam Tribune got a special mention in the print media category for her stories on human trafficking and forced migration, while Aparamita Das got a special mention for her photo essay under the still photography category.
“Late Kalyan Barooah represented the voice of Assam and the Northeast on the national stage with integrity, dedication, and unwavering commitment. “My best wishes to all the recipients of the award across different categories,” said Pabitra Margherita at the award ceremony.
The award ceremony was co-organised by North East Media Forum (NEMF) and My Home India.
“Recognition like the Kalyan Barooah Awards would definitely encourage the budding journalists to work with dedication and contribute toward the development of Northeast”, said former national secretary of BJP and founder of My Home India’ Sunil Deodhar.
The Kalyan Barooah Awards is given to journalists and media persons based in the Northeast and other parts of India for their efforts to promote the Northeastern region through reporting and story-telling.
The Jury members, including Utpal Borpujari, Moushumi Chakraborty, Sandeep Phukan, Prof Sashwati Goswami, and Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, adopted a marking system to select the winners. Every Jury member was able to provide 20 marks for each entry and each entry was judged based on a total of 120 marks.
