Keibul Lamjao: The Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with Sinheibi Development Organisation, successfully organised the Fish Farmers’ Awareness Programme and the Distribution of Fisherman Cards under the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) at Keibul Lamjao Village.
This initiative is a key component of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY), spearheaded by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India. It seeks to strengthen the fisheries sector through targeted financial and technological interventions, fostering institutional reforms for sustainable and transformative growth.
The event also marked the celebration of Good Governance Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji. The occasion highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, transparency, and empowerment of the fishing community.
A significant milestone of the event was the distribution of 100 of Fishermen Cards to fishers from the Moirangkhunou Gram Panchayat in the Thanga constituency. These cards aim to facilitate access to government schemes and resources, empowering local fish farmers and promoting the overall development of the fisheries sector.
The programme was graced by the presence of several esteemed dignitaries, including Shri M Asnikumar Singh, Chairman of Loktak Development Authority; Shri E. Rameshore, District Fishery Officer, Bishnupur District; Shri L. Dhaneshwore Singh, Pradhan, Moirangkhunou Gram Panchayat; and Shri Oinam Sova Singh, a renowned local educationist. Their active participation and commitment were instrumental in the success of the event.
Speaking at the event, Shri M. Asnikumar Singh, Chairman of the Loktak Development Authority, stated, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh Ji, the government is steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of the fishing community. Initiatives like PM-MKSSY are pivotal in addressing the challenges faced by our fish farmers and in driving the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.”
