Imphal: (TMB News Network) Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity Convenor Khuraijam Athouba on Saturday said the different responses to the Pahalgam terror attack and “crisis in the state” by the Centre has created a sense of neglect and frustration among the people and that key resolutions will be taken to bring an end to the conflict.
Speaking at the sidelines of Manipur Peoples’ Convention held at Khuman Lampak to observe the 2nd anniversary of the outbreak of ethnic violence in the state, Khuraijam said “the ongoing sufferings and grievances have never been sincerely addressed by the Centre. People are frustrated and anxious. Today is a very important day. We are taking key resolutions which will be pursued with the government of India. There is an overwhelming response from the masses. The resolutions taken today, we believe, will help in resolving the crisis.”
Khuraijam said “seeing the different response to Pahalgam terror attacks and that of the Manipur crisis, the people have felt they are being neglected and are given less importance by New Delhi. It only will strengthen the sense of abandonment by the Centre. This is not a good sign and message to the people. We want centre to take some concrete and abrupt actions so as to resolve the crisis.”
Khuraijam said the centre must guarantee the fundamental rights of the valley people which has been hampered by inability to move beyond the valley and that the resolutions that are to taken today will be pursued with the Centre.
He said “our concern includes include guarantees of the constitutional and fundamental rights of the valley people from the Centre. Whatever resolutions we are going to take, it should be the game changer and driving force to bring an end to this conflict and we appeal to the people to stay united behind the resolutions so that it can be pursued with the Centre without compromising anything. Centre has to act now and if they to deliver us, people will come out in the streets to demand what is rightfully theirs.
On the imposition of Presidents Rule in the state, Khuraijam said “now the entire people of the state that President rule in Manipur has completely failed.”
President of All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup Lourembam Nganbi, a Meira Paibi leader, said “the violence has been prolonged by the armed attacks carried out by militant groups against the vulnerable Meitei villages in the peripheral villages of Imphal valley. This needs to be acknowledged by the Centre.”
Our demands include NRC so as to identify the illegal immigrants from Myanmar, she said.
Meanwhile, braving the scorching summer heat, thousands turned up to offer floral tributes at Convention in honour of the Meitei victims killed during the ethnic conflict that broke out in the state on May 3, 3023.
