Imphal: The flood situation in Manipur has taken a dire turn, with multiple rivers surpassing their flood marks and posing a significant threat to nearby communities. According to the Water Resources Department, the Imphal River at Minuthong has reached a critical level of 788.400 meters, well above the designated flood level of 786.900 meters.
The Iril River at Irilbung Bridge has also breached its flood mark, registering a level of 789.200 meters against the flood level of 787.700 meters. Other rivers, including the Nambul and Thoubal, are also flowing significantly above danger marks.
The government has activated flood control measures, with all gates of the Ithai Barrage opened to manage water flow. The Imphal Barrage also has its first four gates open. Residents in flood-prone areas have been urged to stay vigilant and cooperate with local authorities.
The flood control room at Khuyathong is on high alert, monitoring river levels closely. Emergency numbers, including 0385-2451550 and 9774660984, have been made available for public assistance.
The government has circulated the report to senior officials. The public has been advised to follow official advisories and updates from the Water Resources Department.
