Imphal: In a major breakthrough, security forces in Manipur seized over 200 illegal firearms during a coordinated crackdown across several hill districts. Joint teams from the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Indian Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) launched synchronized search operations starting at midnight on July 3, acting on precise intelligence regarding stockpiles of concealed weapons.

The extensive search and sweep missions were conducted in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts. The effort yielded a staggering 203 weapons, including high-powered arms such as AK-series rifles, INSAS rifles, self-loading rifles (SLRs), sniper rifles, carbines, .303 rifles, mortars, and M79 grenade launchers. Some of the recovered weapons were equipped with scopes, indicating advanced usage.

Authorities also found a large collection of country-made guns including bolt-action rifles, breechloaded single-shots, and muzzle-loaders. Additionally, the raids uncovered a substantial cache of ammunition and explosives: live rounds, 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades, lathode grenades, and pompi shells.

Security officials stated that the operation dealt a severe blow to insurgent groups attempting to destabilize the region. Police representatives described the success as a key milestone in ongoing efforts to restore peace and order across the state. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to arms or explosives to local police or the Central Control Room.

The Office of the Director General of Police emphasized its resolve to intensify counter-insurgency operations and disrupt illegal arms networks that threaten public safety.
