Imphal: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) turned this year’s Ningol Chakouba into a vibrant celebration of sisterhood and solidarity, hosting a special programme for women journalists at the Manipur Press Club.

Clad in traditional Manipuri attire, women journalists brought colour and grace to the festive gathering. The 2025 celebration introduced a fresh, prize-filled twist, featuring attractive gifts and live draws that delighted the participants.

The first prize, a gold earring, was sponsored by Ima Panthoibi Jewellery, Wahengbam Leikai, while the second prize, a gold ring, was sponsored by Leiren Jewellers, Sega Road Thoudabhabok Leikai. The live lucky draw, accompanied by a performance from child artist Winne Thangjam, drew cheers from journalists and their families.

Adding to the excitement, Mozo Hub, Keishampat Konjenhazari Leikai, gifted three rice cookers to lucky attendees, bringing a homely touch to the occasion. The Directorate of Handloom & Textiles, Government of Manipur, along with sponsor Mr. Chagan Rathor, contributed an array of prizes that reflected Manipur’s rich handloom and handicraft heritage.

The event was graced by Asem Bhakta Singh, President of AMWJU; Khogendra Khomdram, President of the Editors Guild Manipur (EGM); and Rupachandra Yumnam, Secretary General of EGM. R.K. Nimai, Advisor of AMWJU, also attended and lauded the initiative for honouring women journalists through a meaningful cultural celebration.

Anchoring the event, Khwairakpam Naoba, General Secretary of AMWJU, highlighted how Ningol Chakouba reinforces familial bonds while recognizing the vital role of women journalists in Manipur’s media landscape.

“We wanted the celebration to feel both festive and forward-looking — giving our sisters not just a feast but a chance to win something truly special,” said Khwairakpam Naoba.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to sponsors and a feast of authentic Manipuri delicacies, underscoring AMWJU’s continued commitment to community bonding and cultural celebration.

This year’s celebration, blending tradition with a modern spirit of empowerment, reaffirmed why Ningol Chakouba remains one of the most cherished and unifying festivals for the journalistic fraternity in Manipur.
