Manipuri Documentary “Battlefield” to Premiere at 56th IFFI

Imphal: A Manipuri documentary film, “Battlefield”, produced by Hyderabad-based filmmaker Praveen Ramaraju, is set to have its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025, scheduled from November 20 to 28, 2025, in Goa.
The film, directed by Borun Thokchom, is one of the 20 non-feature films selected for the Indian Panorama section of the festival. “Battlefield” sheds light on the enduring impact of World War II on Manipur, through the voices of survivors and those affected.
The documentary highlights the contrast between the commemoration of war heroes and the silence surrounding the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Manipur. The film took 10 years to complete and is a powerful narrative of Manipur’s history.
Praveen Ramaraju, the producer, stated that the film’s selection is a proud moment for the team. “We are thrilled to be a part of this prestigious festival and to share our story with a global audience,” he said.
Borun Thokchom, a renowned filmmaker and video journalist, has brought attention to a crucial aspect of Manipur’s history through his documentary. The film’s inclusion in the IFFI is a testament to the growing recognition of regional cinema and the importance of storytelling in highlighting social issues.
The 56th IFFI promises to be a celebration of cinema, with “Battlefield” being one of the highlights. The festival will showcase 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films, making it a must-attend event for film enthusiasts.
