Dr. Kiran Yendrembam’s Highlights:
Dr. Kiran Yendrembam emphasizes that the Manipur Olympic Association caters to normal athletes, while the Para Olympic Committee of Manipur supports physically challenged and dwarf athletes. He urges the State Government to provide equal support and encouragement to para players, who have brought laurels to Manipur. Dr. Yendrembam expresses disappointment that only 7 players and 5 officials could participate in the 2nd North East Para Sports Meet-2025 due to high airfares and lack of government support, terming it “open discrimination and a big insult to all para players and innocent people in the State.” He adds, “If the situation doesn’t improve, it may lead to a sense of hopelessness and frustration among para athletes, which could ultimately affect their participation in future events.” He further states, “The lack of support is not only affecting the athletes but also demoralizing the entire state, and it’s high time the government takes concrete steps to address this issue.” Due to the unaffordable airfares, many deserving participants were unable to participate, which is a significant loss for Manipur’s para sports.
