Imphal: The Kanglup Khundrakpam Kendra Youths Organization (KHUKYO) has written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concerns and grievances over historical injustices and ongoing issues faced by the people of Manipur.
The letter highlights the annexation of Manipur by the Indian government in 1949, following the lapse of British paramountcy on August 14, 1947, and the subsequent struggles of the indigenous people for recognition and rights.
The organization has raised concerns over issues such as:
– Illegal immigration and demographic changes
– Armed violence and presence of automatic weapons
– Imposition of laws like AFSPA 1958, Anti-Terrorism Act 2020, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967
– Military operations treating locals as enemies
– Neglect and marginalization of the community.
The KHUKYO has demanded:
– Recognition of indigenous rights and autonomy
– Repeal of draconian laws and military withdrawal
– Protection of land, culture, and identity
– Development and empowerment of the community
The letter urges the Indian government to listen to the voices of the people of Manipur and address their concerns, seeking justice and equality.
