Imphal: As part of the ongoing research on tracking of Amur falcon by satellite transmitters tagging by Forest Department Manipur and Wildlife Institute of India in November 8 2025, three Amur falcons namely Ahu, Alang and Apapang were released with satellite transmitters from Chiuluan Roosting site by a team of Scientists from Wildlife Institute of India, Tamenglong Forest Division officials and Chiuluan Village volunteers. These tagged Amurs had reached Africa within a record time of about 9 to 10 days. Since then these birds are enjoying their wintering migration in different countries in Africa.
The latest report from Dr. R. Suresh Kumar, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun said that all the three Amur falcons are still active and doing well. Earlier it was thought Ahu might be having some issues but now he confirmed that it is also having local movements but confined around Somalia only. During the last wintering migration of Chiuluan 2, they start it’s north ward migration to its breeding ground on 14th April 2025. Ahu is still in Somalia, Apapang is in Zimbabwe and Alang is in Botswana as on date!.
