Thanga: The inauguration of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Multi-Utility Youth Centre at Loktak Lairembi Ground, Thanga-I, on October 14, 2024, marked a significant step towards youth empowerment in the region. The event was presided over by Shri M. Asnikumar Singh, Chairman of the Loktak Development Authority, Manipur, and attended by Shri Heisnam Sanayaima Singh, Former Minister of Manipur and President of the LLDO, along with local leaders and youth representatives.

In his speech, Shri Asnikumar stressed the importance of the centre, which was constructed as part of a special project by the Manipur Development Society. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh’s vision, launched in 2021, to guide youth away from antisocial activities, particularly addressing the issue of drug abuse in local communities.

The centre is equipped with modern amenities including a gym, computer learning facilities, and a 65” smart TV that broadcasts educational and informative content. It also features a multipurpose hall designed to host various youth-related activities, promoting unity, creativity, and collaboration.

Named after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the centre stands as a tribute to his philosophy of Integral Humanism, advocating for a society based on justice, inclusiveness, and human dignity. Shri Asnikumar urged the youth of Thanga to actively engage in nation-building and use their skills to contribute positively, especially in the conservation of Loktak Lake and its rich biodiversity.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble CM Shri N. Biren Singh on behalf of the Thanga community, noting that this is the second of 20 planned multi-utility youth centres across rural and hill areas in Manipur. These centres aim to unlock the potential of underprivileged youth, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and contribute to the progress of Manipur.
