Imphal: BABINA Hospital has achieved a major milestone in cardiac care by completing its first full series of catheter‑lab procedures and open‑heart surgeries. The hospital is now offering both operative and non‑operative cardiac interventions under the RBSK, CMHT and PMJAY schemes, bringing advanced treatment to patients in Manipur.
Key Highlights
– _First series of interventions_ – Device‑closure procedures began on 23 November 2025, followed by three open‑heart surgeries on 25 and 26 November 2025.
– Mid‑Aortic Syndrome case_ – A 32‑year‑old woman with severe abdominal aortic narrowing was treated with an endovascular procedure in the Cath Lab led by Dr Lukram Sidartha and a visiting expert team. She was discharged shortly after, marking one of the hospital’s first such treatments.
– _Additional congenital cases_ – Three patients underwent device closure: one with an atrial septal defect (ASD) and two with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
Surgical Details
– _Open‑heart surgeries_ were supported by a 5‑chamber STOCKERT bypass machine, expandable to seven chambers for complex cases.
– Procedures included:
– Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) physiology
– Sinus venosus ASD with fenestration
– Doubly‑committed VSD with RVOT muscle bundle
Recovery
– Device‑closure patients left the hospital in _1–2 days.
– Open‑heart surgery patients were discharged in 4–5 days.
The combination of state‑of‑the‑art technology and coordinated teamwork has reduced complications and shortened hospital stays for cardiac patients.
Looking Ahead
BABINA Hospital plans to expand its cardiac services further, ensuring more residents of Manipur can access specialised treatment under government health schemes without travelling outside the state.
