Shri Asnikumar informed the Governor that steps are being taken to restore the ecological health of Loktak Lake, with a focus on conserving its catchment areas and the diverse flora and fauna within the ecosystem. Furthermore, he apprised the Hon’ble Governor of the issues of polluted water from the crucial Waishel Maril (stream) and Merakhong Maril flowing into the lake and the need for the rejuvenation and cleaning of both the streams to aid in both conservation of Loktak Lake and flood mitigation.
The Chairman also emphasized that community participation is vital for the successful and complete ecological restoration of Loktak Lake. He called for active involvement from local communities to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the lake.
The Hon’ble Governor expressed his concern regarding the impact of the Loktak Hydro Project on Loktak Lake and its associated wetlands, reflecting his commitment to the preservation of this invaluable natural treasure.
