BBBP SCHEME: EMPHASIS ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT

Kakching (DIO-IPR): The District Administration Kakching distributed a sanitary napkin vending machine and a sanitary napkin incinerator machine to the Kakching Higher Secondary School for free as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme which translates to ‘save the girl child, educate the girl child’.

It was distributed with an aim to ensure easy accessibility to sanitary products for the girl students and to promote better menstrual hygiene practices. It may be mentioned that one of the key objectives of the BBBP scheme is also to raise awareness about safe Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).

The distribution of the sanitary products was done under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching in joint collaboration with the District Protection Officer (DPO), ICDS Cell, Kakching and Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Kakching under the BBBP scheme launched in 2015 which aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve efficacy of welfare services for girls.

As for awareness purpose, the officials also distributed notebooks and posters containing detailed information of the Women Helpline and Child Helpline. They explained to the students and the teachers of Kakching Higher Secondary School that any distress person can call Women Helpline toll-free number 181 or reach out to Child Helpline toll-free number 1098 at the time of need.

Similarly, the officials also distributed notebooks and posters containing detailed information regarding Women Helpline and Child Helpline to the students of Wabagai Higher Secondary School.
