Imphal: In a ceremony held today, Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykishan laid the foundation stone for a new elevator facility at the Manipur Press Club. This long-awaited addition aims to improve accessibility for journalists and visitors.

During the brief ceremony, MLA Joykishan expressed his continued support for the journalist community, recalling the media’s crucial role in times of crisis. He stated, “I have always stood by journalists during difficult times, and this initiative is a small step towards making their working environment more accessible.” Initially planned as a G3 type elevator, technical consultations led to the decision to install a G4 model with a capacity of eight persons, pending final approval from concerned technicians.

The MLA appreciated the media’s role in promoting peace and stability, appealing to journalists to continue their service with commitment and integrity. He emphasized, “The role of the press is more crucial than ever in restoring peace and harmony in Manipur.”

Regarding the current political scenario, Joykishan mentioned his personal belief that the central government is keen on restoring a popular government in the state. However, he refrained from further comments, stating that clarity is expected during the upcoming Parliament session.

A. Bhakta, President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), expressed gratitude on behalf of the press community. He said, “The installation of this lift will be a significant upgrade for the press club, benefiting senior journalists and making the premises more accessible for all visitors.”

The event was attended by EGM President Khogendra Khomdram, advisers, and members of AMWJU, as well as journalists from across the media fraternity.
