ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS MP CARES FOR MANIPUR, SUBMITS LETTER TO AMIT SHAH ON MOUNT MANIPUR MEMORIAL

Vijaya Puram: As part of his continued efforts to address the important issues concerning the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, has wrote to Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah, requesting swift action for the revival and construction of the long-pending Mount Manipur Memorial at a suitable location in South Andaman. In his letter to Amit Shah, MP Bishnu Pada Ray recalled the memorial project which was conceived during the Home Minister’s visit to the islands on 17th October 2021, when Mount Harriet was officially renamed as Mount Manipur to honour the 23 Manipuri freedom fighters of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, including Maharaja Kulachandra Singh, who were exiled to the islands during British colonial rule.

The MP underlined that the timely construction of the Mount Manipur Memorial would strengthen the emotional and historical bonds between the Northeast and the Andaman Islands, promote national integration, and inspire patriotism among citizens and visitors.*
*Copies of the letter were also marked to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary of A&N Islands for necessary action, and to Mr. Mukeswar Lall, Member of the UT Heritage Committee and Founder of the Kalipani Museum, and also a copy to the Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla for information and follow-up.*
