Imphal: In a moving tribute to Manipur’s cherished tradition of Ningol Chakouba, celebrations were held across Kakching, Pallel and Bijoypur on 20th and 22nd October 2025, By Commander 26 Sector, Seter bringing together communities and security forces in a spirit of unity, cultural pride and shared resilience. Organised by Assam Rifles, the events reaffirmed the Force’s enduring commitment to fostering civil–military harmony and emotional solidarity with the people of Manipur.

On 20 October, the festivities unfolded at Kakching Khunao, where Assam Rifles personnel celebrated Ningol Chakouba with 387 residents of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps comprising of 139 men, 167 women and 81 children. The occasion was marked by a traditional welcome, heartfelt exchanges of greetings and a festive community meal featuring authentic Manipuri cuisine. Upholding the essence of the festival, which honours the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, the troops invited Ningols (married women) and children to participate in the celebrations, reinforcing the sentiment that the Force stands as an extended family to the people of Manipur.

Gifts, sweets and essential household items were distributed among the women and children, bringing moments of joy and comfort to families navigating displacement and uncertainty.
Continuing the festive spirit, Assam Rifles hosted another celebration on 22 October at Pallel Garrison, where around 70 Meira Paibis from Pallel, Bijoypur and Kakching joined the troops in commemorating Ningol Chakouba.
The event was enriched by vibrant cultural exchanges, warm camaraderie and the sharing of traditional delicacies, culminating in an atmosphere of joy and togetherness. The presence of Meira Paibis revered torchbearers of community strength and dignity added depth and grace to the occasion, highlighting the enduring cultural bonds that unite the region.

A total of 28 personnel from Assam Rifles participated across both events, ensuring seamless coordination and heartfelt engagement. Through these initiatives, Assam Rifles continues to uphold its role as the “Sentinels of the North East,” bringing light, hope and belonging to communities even in times of hardship.
