Chandigarh: Chandigarh-Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ) was held on Tuesday at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Chandigarh, with journalists from 21 states participating. The event also marked the formation of a new ad hoc Working Committee of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU).
Geetartha Pathak and , Vinod Kohli have been chosen tas the President of the working committee and Vinod Kohli as the Secretary General. While S. Sabanayakan and Sabina Inderjit have been nominated as the as Advisors. Members from various states were inducted in the working committee and it was announced that the IJU plenary session and elections will be held in six months, with B.R. Prajapati was appointed as Chief Returning Officer.

Earlier, CPUJ’s Silver Jubilee celebrations were inaugurated by Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, who acknowledged the rising challenges before journalists today. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the chief guest, lauded journalists for their vital role in shaping society and announced Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to CPUJ. A Silver Jubilee souvenir was also released.
CPUJ President Vinod Kohli highlighted the union’s efforts and its participation in the recent UNESCO workshop in Bangalore. Cultural performances by children of Prachin Kala Kendra enriched the ceremony.
The function concluded with the felicitation of journalists from across the country, celebrating CPUJ’s 25-year journey and the continued commitment of journalists to public service.
