Telangana: The Telangana-North East Connect festival wrapped up with a powerful panel discussion on women’s empowerment in sports, featuring renowned athletes like Bhaichung Bhutia, Mirabai Chanu, and Laishram Sarita Devi. Moderated by journalist Pradip Phanjoubam, the discussion highlighted the importance of connecting Telangana and North East India through sports.
Mirabai Chanu inspired female athletes to break stereotypes and pursue their passions, while Laishram Sarita Devi shared her remarkable journey from a small village to global stardom, emphasizing her academy’s efforts to support underprivileged children in boxing. Other notable panelists included Pullela Gopichand and Mantu Debnath, Arjuna Awardee (Gymnastics) Tripura.
The three-day festival at Hitex Exhibition Centre, Telangana, showcased cultural events, literary sessions, film screenings, and sports clinics conducted by North East Indian athletes. The event also marked MoUs between Telangana and North East sports organizations, paving the way for future collaborations.
