Imphal: Representatives of 14 CSOs of Kangleipak, currently camping in New Delhi, today submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister and the Census Commissioner, urging them to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur during the Census process.

The delegation met with Shri Mritunjaya Kumar Narayan, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner, and officials of the Union Home Ministry in New Delhi.

In their memorandum, the 14 CSOs stated that the Census exercise for 2027 and the NRC update work should be carried out simultaneously.
They further urged that the NRC update be completed before the population figures of Census 2027 are finalized, and before the delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies is taken up.

The CSO representatives highlighted that due to the large-scale illegal influx of people from Myanmar in recent years, Manipur’s demography has been significantly altered.
Therefore, they requested the Union Home Ministry’s Committee on Demographic Change to urgently examine the matter.
They also submitted a memorandum to the said Committee, demanding the inclusion of one representative from Manipur.
