Manipur Observes 3rd National Space Day 2026 at Waikhom Mani Girls’ College, Thoubal

Thoubal, Manipur: The 3rd National Space Day 2026 was observed in Manipur on 22nd August 2026 at Waikhom Mani Girls’ College, Thoubal, with the objective of creating awareness among students and the public about India’s achievements in space science and technology and inspiring young minds to pursue careers in space science.

The programme was organised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in collaboration with the Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC) and Waikhom Mani Girls’ College, Thoubal.

Shri Anurag Bajpai, IFS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Smt. Robita Yumnam, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal; Prof. H. Manoranjan Sharma, Principal, Waikhom Mani Girls’ College; Dr. N. Raghu Meetei, Associate Director, DTDI, ISRO HQ, Department of Space, Government of India; Shri M. Somorjit Singh, Head, GSD, NESAC; and Prof. A. Dilipkumar Singh, Department of Physics, Manipur University and Director, MARSAC.

The observance is part of the nationwide celebration of National Space Day, commemorating the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon and celebrating India’s growing capabilities in space exploration.

The event brought together students, teachers, officials and academics. Various activities were organised to highlight the importance of space science, satellite technology and its applications in areas such as communication, weather forecasting, disaster management, agriculture, navigation, education and environmental monitoring.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasised the significant contribution of the Indian space programme to national development and encouraged students to cultivate scientific curiosity, innovation and a spirit of inquiry.

The celebration reaffirmed Manipur’s commitment to promoting scientific temper and STEM education among the youth, particularly girls, and marked an important step towards inspiring the next generation of space scientists from the region.
