Delhi returnee tests Covid-19 +ve in Manipur

Imphal: (Waari Singbul Network) A woman, who recently returned to Manipur from Delhi, tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the violence-hit state to take measures to combat the virus spread.
Manipur health director, Dr kh Sasheekumar Mangang said the sample collected from the infected woman was on Friday sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune for genome sequencing to ascertain the types of variants.
The woman, who tested positive on Thursday, is fine and has no health issues, Mangang said, while urging the people not to panic but to take precautionary measures as done during the height of the pandemic.
Expecting the sample’s result by Monday, the director said even it comes out positive for the new variant JN.1 there is nothing to panic about it though it spreads fast.
The woman flew from the national capital to Dimapur before coming by bus to Paomata in Senapati.
After the new wave of Covid-19 spread in some states of the country, the state government has taken up precautionary steps at Imphal airport where a medical team is kept.
Passengers, who show Covid symptoms or coming from infected areas, are tested there, Mangang said and appealed to the people to follow Covid appropriate behavior.
When contacted, Dr Sumpi Percy, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Senapati, said that the infected woman came to Poamata Public Health Centre (PHC) with certain Covid-19 symptoms like cough, stuffy nose associated with typhoid fever a couple of days back.
For treatment she was kept at the isolated ward of the centre for a day, Sumpi said, adding that as her conditioned improved she was discharged on Thursday, but remained under home isolation since then.
“ She is in good health now but has to stay under home isolation for a week counting from Thursday, “ the lady CMO said.
