Manipur Class 12 Board Exam from Wednesday amid conflict

Imphal: (Waari Singbul Network ) The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) is all set to conduct the class 12 Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations from Wednesday amidst the unceasing ethnic violence besetting the state.
Altogether, 31,351 students , including 8100 in the arts stream, 22,631 (science) and 620 (commerce) will appear in the exam at 111 centres across the state, said the council’s chairman Takhellambam Ojit Singh on Tuesday, adding that the exam is scheduled to be ended on March 23.
Of total number of centres, 36 are in the ten hill districts, and 75 are in the 6 valley districts, Ojit said, while appealing to the candidates to set aside the woes of the conflict and perform their best in the examination.
Owing to substantial impact of the conflict, the council has cancelled three examination centres and arranged their students to nearby safer sites, he said.
The centres, according to the chairman, are Sugnu Higher Secondary School in Kakching district, Emanuel English Academy at Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East district and Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School in Chandel district.
Students of Sugnu school exam centre have been arranged to appear in the exam at Kakching Khunou Higher Secondary School and for Emanuel English Academy student, they will sit at Lamlai Higher Secondary school, while Chakpikarong Higher Secondary school centre students will take the exam at Maha Union Higher Secondary school, he continued.
To ensure smooth conduct of the exam and check unfair means, 70 flying squad teams have been arranged by the council, Ojit said, adding that neutral persons, including flying squad members and invigilators, who are not members of the conflicting communities, are deployed at the centres which come under the strife zones.
The chairman also asked the exam invigilators and officials concerned to stay on vigil to ensure no unfair activities like copying and impersonation are indulged during the exam.
