Imphal (DIPR): The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Manipur, observed Drivers’ Day 2026 today at the DIPR Auditorium, Imphal.
The programme was graced by Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh, Director of Information and Public Relations, as Chief Guest. Smt. Waikhom Phajatombi Devi and Shri Tongbram Ramesh Singh, Additional Directors of IPR, attended as Presidium Members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Charanjeet Singh said Drivers’ Day is a significant occasion dedicated to recognizing and honouring the invaluable contribution of government drivers. He appreciated the initiative and hoped that similar programmes would be organized across other government departments.
He noted that the observance marks an important step towards acknowledging the dedicated services rendered by drivers, whose contributions often remain behind the scenes despite being crucial to the smooth functioning of government offices. Many official duties and responsibilities, he said, could not be carried out efficiently without their support and commitment.
Highlighting their role, Dr. Charanjeet Singh remarked that drivers are not merely vehicle operators but essential personnel who ensure safe transportation and facilitate the effective discharge of official duties. Every department, including DIPR, depends significantly on their services, and their role is indispensable in ensuring the successful execution of departmental activities.

Extending his appreciation and best wishes to all drivers, he urged them to continue performing their duties with dedication, sincerity, and professionalism. He emphasized that their contributions are highly valued and respected by the Directorate and acknowledged their hard work, commitment, and service towards the success of the department.
Shri Tongbram Ramesh Singh stated that the day marks the establishment of the All India Government Drivers Federation (AIGDF), headquartered in Delhi, on 11 June 1994, to honour the dedication and service of government drivers.
He highlighted the indispensable role of drivers in ensuring the smooth functioning of government departments. Drivers safely transport officials to meetings, inaugurations, inspections, VIP visits, and other engagements, often spending long periods away from their families. He also appreciated the drivers of DIPR for their punctuality, professionalism, and commitment.
