Imphal: The United People’s Front (UPF), Manipur today observed its 28th Foundation Day at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Addressing the gathering, UPF Manipur President Nongthombam Rupachandra said the Front has completed 28 years since its inception on August 28, 1998.
He said that under its motto “Dignified Existence”, UPF Manipur has consistently visited different hill areas of the State to strengthen bonds and promote understanding between hill and valley communities.
Rupachandra stated that UPF Manipur supports the stand of “No NRC, No Census” and will extend support to the ongoing agitation for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD).
He criticised the State and Central governments for failing to take adequate steps to resolve the conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023 and urged them to work towards a peaceful and lasting solution.
Expressing concern over the continued stay of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in relief camps, he urged the government to take concrete measures for their rehabilitation and resettlement in their respective homes.
He further said UPF Manipur will continue its campaign against the settlement of outsiders in Manipur, asserting that demographic concerns should be addressed in the interest of the future of the State.
COCOMI Convenor and UCM President YK. Dhiren highlighted the past and present struggles for the State’s integrity. Retd. Head of Department of Political Science, Imphal College, K. Sethajit also spoke on current issues, while UPF Advisor Advocate L. Jadumani shared his experiences.
The programme was attended by AMWJU President Asem Bhakta among others as presidium members.
