Thanga: A preliminary feasibility study was successfully conducted for a comprehensive proposal aimed at enhancing road connectivity in Thanga constituency. Officials and engineers from the State PWD Department, along with community leaders, joined Shri Moirangthem Asnikumar Singh, Hon’ble Chairman of Loktak Development Authority in this critical initiative, which promises to bring much-needed progress and prosperity to the region.

The ambitious proposal focuses on improving and widening existing roads while developing new connectivity options. It includes the widening, resurfacing, and upgrading of approach roads to proper tarmac/asphalt standards, connecting Thanga from Sendra and Keibul sides, along with the crucial Moirangkhunou-Keibul stretch and the Keibul-Kaishoi-Sendra road. Further, roads in and around Thanga Hillock will undergo comprehensive improvements, including the construction of retaining walls with geo-textile technology, roadside drainage systems, culverts, mini bridges, medium bridges , major bridges and safety barriers to ensure commuter safety.

A significant feature of the proposal is the construction of a new road from Thanga Salam Mangha( Pukhrambam Ching )- Mandha- Chingthi, along with bridges linking Thanga Salam Mangha( Pukhrambam Hill)- Mandha- Mukap and Mandha to Chingthi and extending further to Sekmaijin , Imphal West . This route holds immense historical significance as it was once a vital footpath used by the people of Thanga for trade with Kakching, especially during the winter months when it became accessible. This proposal will not only restore the route but also re-establish the bonds of trade, culture, and kinship that have connected these communities for generations.

Once implemented, the project will provide direct connectivity to Bishnupur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts while integrating Thanga with key national highways, including Tidim Road (NH 02 ), Mayai Lambi (NH 137/A), and National Highway 102 /ASEAN Highway (Indo-Myanmar National Highway). It is expected to open up new opportunities for trade, commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange, ensuring Thanga’s seamless integration into the state and national economic framework.

Shri M Asnikumar Singh expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh, Works Minister Shri Govindas Konthoujam, and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India (MoRTH), for their support in considering the proposal and directing the State PWD Department to initiate the survey and prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). He also extended heartfelt thanks to the community leaders and the people of Thanga for their unwavering support and active participation in the feasibility study.

“This is more than just a road development project,” Shri M Asnikumar stated. “It is about reviving the region’s historic ties, fostering economic opportunities, and building a better future for Thanga and its neighbouring communities of Bishnupur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts. By drastically reducing travel time – from hours to mere minutes – this initiative will improve connectivity, enhance livelihoods, and foster regional growth. Together, we are not only building roads but paving the way for a stronger, more connected, and more prosperous region.”

The successful completion of this preliminary study marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Thanga, promising growth, development, and a brighter future for its people.
