Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has reiterated his commitment to continue the war on drugs under his government, stressing that efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse will remain relentless. Taking to social media, the Chief Minister announced a significant achievement in the state’s battle against illegal drugs. On the morning of January 25, 2025, a total of 314.471 kg of seized drugs were destroyed at the Shija Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility in Lamdeng, Imphal West.
The destruction ceremony was attended by Ministers, MLAs, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, and other concerned officials. The drugs destroyed included a variety of substances: 9.884 kg of heroin powder, 244.409 kg of brown sugar, 26.239 kg of WY tablets, 661 grams of SP capsules, 493 grams of N-10 tablets, 505 grams of pseudoephedrine tablets, and 32.280 kg of ganja. The seized narcotics were accumulated over the period from 2023 to 2024. In his message, Biren Singh emphasized that the war on drugs is not just a campaign but a mission aimed at securing the future of Manipur’s younger generations, preserving the integrity of society, and ensuring a safer and drug-free state. He urged the public to continue their proactive involvement in supporting the government’s efforts in eradicating the drug menace. As part of the ceremony, the Chief Minister led the destruction of narcotics worth an estimated Rs 399 crore, reinforcing his administration’s strong stance against drug abuse. The drugs were incinerated in a facility in Lamdeng, marking another crucial milestone in the state’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking. Chief Minister Biren Singh called for unity in the mission, urging the people of Manipur to stand together in the collective effort to eliminate drugs and protect the future of the state.
