CM Pays Tribute to Maharaj Narasingh on 176th Death Anniversary

Imphal: Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, today paid rich tributes to Maharaj Narasingh on his 176th death anniversary at the historic Kangla Fort,Imphal. And offered tarpan at Nungjeng Pukhri and paid obeisance to the Shree Shree Govindajee Jalakeli Pala led by Maharajkumari Hemamanjuri.
While paying homage at the Samadhi of Maharaj Narasingh, the Chief Minister prayed for peace and harmony in the state.
Addressing the gathering, he recalled the significant role played by Maharaj Narasingh during the Seven Years Devastation. He noted that the king had visited Cachar and united Manipuri people scattered across regions through diplomatic efforts. With British assistance, the Manipur Levy was formed, which later helped drive out Burmese forces and restore the independence of Manipur.

In his presidential address, minister for Arts and Culture , Khuraijam Loken Singh emphasized that the present generation must remember the sacrifices of their forefathers and uphold their legacy of courage and unity.
The observance featured a Guard of Honour, gun salute, and the sounding of the Last Post by a contingent of the 1st Manipur Rifles.
The programme was organised by the Manipur State Archaeology Department under the Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur. Among those present were Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Member of Parliament Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLAs, and senior civil and police officials.
