Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today inspected the ongoing construction of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) and cargo terminal at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, emphasizing the need for timely completion and strict adherence to quality standards. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Anurag Bajpai, Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Director (Transport) Kh. Diana Devi, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Ch. Biswachandra Singh, and officials from the Airports Authority of India.
Reviewing the progress, the Chief Minister directed all concerned agencies to ensure that the NITB is completed within the stipulated timeline. He also instructed that the already constructed cargo terminal be made operational at the earliest.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, he noted that the new infrastructure would significantly enhance connectivity and contribute to economic growth in the region.
In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister said that although the project has shown encouraging progress, certain shortcomings in workmanship were observed. He added that necessary instructions have been issued for immediate rectification to maintain quality standards.
During the visit, he also reviewed facilities at the air cargo terminal and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening airport infrastructure, improving passenger convenience, and enhancing service delivery.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inspected ongoing road and drainage construction works at Paona Bazaar, urging the concerned authorities to expedite the projects for early completion.
