Asem Bhagta Northeast Correspondence
Delhi: Delhi Police today obstructed and disrupted the protest demonstration called by Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on October 10th Along with detaining CJP leaders Abhijeet Deepke, Ashutosh and JNU AISA President Neha Bora and several other leaders, Delhi Police also detained many people who had come to participate in the protest at Jantar Mantar.
This shows that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre is strangling democracy in India, stated Dr. Seram Rojesh, Spokesperson of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), from Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
MPP stated that it supports the people’s movement to save democracy in India and to ensure that the Election Commission of India functions independently.
As reported by The Indian Express, the Election Commission’s Chairman Gyanesh Kumar is not working as per rules and norms. The report reveals serious lapses. Therefore, the demand by CJP and the youth of India for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar is justified and legitimate.
Dr. Seram Rojesh further stated that if the Election Commission conducts the upcoming 2027 Manipur election as per the wishes of the BJP, it will be a betrayal of the people of Manipur.

In the independent history of India, detention of protesters without any prior plan has never happened.
What is happening today with the ECI violating norms is similar to what is happening in Manipur. The BJP Governments in Delhi and Manipur keeping the people of Manipur inside Buffer Zones without the Constitution functioning is also a result of the failure of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi to protect democracy in Manipur.
Gyanesh Kumar must resign to ensure a free and fair election in Manipur.
