Imphal: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) on Saturday observed the 78th anniversary of the formation of the first Elected Manipur State Legislative Assembly under the Manipur State Constitution Act, 1947.

A commemorative function was held at the Press Conference Hall of MPP at People’s Road, Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.

Speaking to media persons, MPP Spokesperson Dr. Seram Rojesh said that Manipur was one of the first states in Southeast Asia to adopt adult franchise and elect its own government to safeguard the motherland.

He lamented that under the present political setup within India, national political parties have failed to acknowledge this historic democratic legacy of Manipur.

Dr. Rojesh stated that if the Manipur People’s Party comes to power, the party will declare 18th October as a State Holiday and officially observe the day every year.

On the occasion, MPP General Secretary (Admin) Dr. K. Muktasana announced that if MPP forms the next government in the state, the party will grant Sports Autonomy in Manipur.

The MPP was established on 26/12/1968 and is one of the oldest regional parties of the state.
