In a significant step towards community welfare, the Indian Army under its flagship Military Civic Action programme, Operation Sadbhavana, has brought long-awaited water security to a village in Leimakhong.

The Red Shield Division provided a 10,000-litre water storage facility to the village, directly benefiting around 35 families who have been struggling with recurring water scarcity, especially during the dry season.

For years, the absence of adequate storage infrastructure made the village entirely dependent on continuous water flow from local sources. When the flow reduced in dry months, residents faced acute shortages and were forced to walk long distances to fetch water for daily needs.

Recognising this hardship, the Indian Army stepped in to strengthen the village’s existing water infrastructure with a practical and sustainable solution. The newly installed storage tank will now allow the community to store water during periods of good flow and draw upon the reserve when the supply dwindles.

The initiative is expected to ensure greater reliability in water availability, reduce physical hardship, and improve overall quality of life. More than just infrastructure, it is a step towards self-reliance and dignity for the families.

Officials said the project reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to need-based civic action, community welfare, and its mission to strengthen bonds of trust, goodwill and harmony with local communities in Manipur.

Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Red Shield Division has been undertaking several such initiatives across the state focusing on health, education, and essential infrastructure.
