AMWJU & EGM express gratitude over enhancement of journalists’ pension; mourn demise of Dr. Engam Pame

Imphal: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) have expressed their sincere gratitude to the State Government following the Cabinet decision to enhance the monthly pension for retired journalists from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 and the family pension for families of deceased journalists from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 under the Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension Rules, 1996.

AMWJU and EGM jointly convey their profound appreciation to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh for his concern for the welfare and social security of the journalist fraternity and for the State Government’s decision to approve the enhancement.

The two organisations also place on record their special appreciation to Shri Oinam Sunil, Media Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, for his personal initiative and sustained efforts in taking forward the matter and facilitating its consideration at the appropriate level.

AMWJU and EGM further express their gratitude to Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh, Director, Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Manipur, and his team for their dedicated efforts in processing and pursuing the proposal that ultimately resulted in the Cabinet approval.

The two organisations also acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of all office-bearers, staff and members of AMWJU and EGM, including retired and senior journalists, who consistently supported and pursued the demand. The achievement is the outcome of a collective effort and reflects the fraternity’s shared commitment towards ensuring greater welfare and dignity for journalists after retirement.

AMWJU and EGM hope that the necessary amendment to the Manipur Working Journalists’ Pension Rules, 1996 and other formalities will be completed at the earliest so that the enhanced pension and family pension can be implemented without delay.

Dr. Pame’s association with the media fraternity and his service in the field of government information and public communication will be remembered with respect. His passing is a great loss to his family, colleagues and all those in the media fraternity who knew and worked with him.

AMWJU and EGM convey their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and loved ones of Dr. Engam Pame and pray that his departed soul may rest in eternal peace.

The journalist fraternity of Manipur stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
